Another free-to-play multiplayer game is shutting down later this year. This time, it’s a sci-fi strategy game that was originally released for PS4 back in 2024.
Hades’ Star: Dark Nebula shuts down console versions
Developer Parallel Space Inc. announced it is shutting down the PS4 and Xbox versions of Hades’ Star: Dark Nebula on October 1. In its blog post regarding the matter, the reasoning behind this decision is due to a “significant drain on the resources” of the team.
“The reason for this shutdown is that console development and upkeep is a significant drain on the resources of our small team,” said the developer’s statement. “We are forced to choose between keeping console versions up to date and providing significant, frequent updates to all of Hades’ Star players. While the decision was not easy, we will not compromise the experience of the significantly larger player base on other platforms.”
Although Hades’ Star: Dark Nebula is losing console support, it will still be accessible via Steam and mobile platforms. Players can carry their console progress to an accessible platform until October 1. Players can go here and scroll to the bottom of the statement to see the instructions. If players want to transfer their account after October 1, the developer says they “may” still be able to recover the account, and to contact support@hadesstar.com.
As a result of Hades’ Star: Dark Nebula shutting down console versions, the developer is issuing 1000 Crystals (the game’s premium currency) to accounts that were created before August 21 and played exclusively on console when they link their account to mobile or Steam. Additionally, console-only accounts that purchased Crystal Packs may be eligible to receive additional Crystals; if that is the case, contact the support email above.
Hades’ Star: Dark Nebula is just one of many games ending support on PS4. Recently, PUBG Studios announced it would be ending legacy support for its popular battle royale, PUBG: Battlegrounds.
