During today’s Fallout Day livestream, it was announced that a Fallout game is coming to PS5. While that may be exciting at first glance, it may not be the Fallout game PS5 players were hoping for.

Fallout 76 PS5 version announced during Fallout Day stream

During Fallout Day Broadcast 2025, Fallout 76 Production Director Bill LaCoste and Creative Director Jon Rush took the stage to reveal new updates for its ever-growing RPG. At the end of their part of the stream, it was revealed that a native PS5 version of Fallout 76 would be coming early next year.

“Early next year, a native version of Fallout 76 will be coming to Xbox Series S and X and PlayStation 5,” said LaCoste. “This update will take full advantage of their hardware capabilities.”

Not much else was said about how this new version would fully leverage the PS5’s capabilities. The developers urged fans to stay tuned for more in the future.

Much of Fallout 76’s time on the livestream was dedicated to its upcoming expansion, Burning Springs, which launches on December 2. Along with featuring brand-new content for players to discover, it will introduce the fan-favorite Fallout TV show character, The Ghoul, to the game, voiced by Walton Goggins.

When Fallout 76 was originally released in 2018, it wasn’t too well-received. According to the review aggregate site Metacritic, it received an average review score of 52 across 46 critic reviews. Despite its middling reception, Bethesda has continued to support the game past launch, making several improvements to the game, as well as adding new features and content regularly.

This is just one of several announcements made during this year’s Fallout Broadcast. Bethesda also revealed Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition, a new version of the critically acclaimed RPG that includes six DLC packs and introduces the Creations menu in-game.
