The Super Mario Bros. Movie is going to become the highest-grossing video game movie of all time this weekend, an achievement that the film will reach after just about a week in theaters.
Through April 13, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has earned more than $437 million globally, which is just shy of the $439 million that Warcraft has made as the No. 1 highest-grossing video game movie of all time. The Super Mario Bros. Movie should surpass Warcraft and set the record today, April 14.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie debuted on April 5 and had a very strong first weekend, setting the record for not only the best start for a video game movie, but also the best opening weekend for any animated film of all time. Disney’s Frozen II was the previous record-holder.
