Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Jumps Out To Record-Setting Start Globally

For the second summer in a row, Tom Cruise has the top movie at the box office worldwide. This time, he set a franchise record with Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 as the action film earned $235 million over a five-day stretch since premiering July 12.

Deadline reports Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning brought in $80 million domestically over those five days, with $155 million coming from international markets. For just the weekend, though, the blockbuster made $56.2 million domestically. This means it sits behind the domestic weekend debuts of Fallout ($61 million) and Mission: Impossible 2 ($57.8 million), per Variety. Additionally, Dead Reckoning came up a bit short of the $250 million worldwide estimates from last week.

Early estimates have shown that Barbie could double up Oppenheimer, bringing in $80 million versus the latter’s $40 million. However, there does seem to be real demand for a “Barbenheimer” double feature too.
