All Altar of Reflection Locations In Ghost of Yotei

Are you searching for Altars of Reflection in Ghost of Yotei? These places of worship can be found all over Ezo, and discovering them ought to be on your to-do list. That’s because they unlock new abilities for your character, Atsu. Our guide has all the information that you need, but be forewarned that there are minor spoilers ahead.

Where to find all Altars of Reflection in Ghost of Yotei

There are dozens of Altars of Reflection in the game. Before you head out to look for them, you might want to consider a few caveats:

  • You can discover Altars of Reflection through general exploration. Alternatively, items known as Traveler’s Maps might lead you to them.
  • When you find an altar, stand in front of it and swipe down on the touchpad to pay your respects. Doing so grants a skill point that you unlocks a particular technique:
    • Note that other techniques only become available once you’ve acquired certain weapons or if you’ve progressed further into the campaign.
    • Wolf-type abilities, meanwhile, can only be unlocked by completing Wolf Den challenges.

Note: If your curious as to which abilities ought to be prioritized, you can head over to our best skills guide.

Region 1 Altars of Reflection map

The map above shows the Ghost of Yotei Altars of Reflection locations in the game’s first region.

Altar of Reflection #1

Talk to Isaburo, the Traveler’s Map vendor, at the Old Inn. Find his monk friend, Gessho, and complete the “Lost in Reflection” side quest.

Altar of Reflection #2

This Ghost of Yotei Altar of Reflection is directly northeast of the Old Inn. It’s also fairly close to a Hot Spring health upgrade.

  • Climb up the plateau to reach the Hot Spring.
  • Follow the sloping path at the other side. As you’re sliding down, get ready to grapple onto a tree branch.
  • Jump across the gap to reach the altar.

Altar of Reflection #3

This structure is near the Sarubetsu River bridge. Look for a pit and drop down to reach it.

Altar of Reflection #4

This fixture is at the back of the cemetery past Jade Grove. Before going there, make sure you pick up the Crow Genzo bounty at the Old Inn. Then, upon arriving at the location, take out the target, Crow Genzo, to receive the Metsubushi quickfire weapon–i.e. smoke bomb/flashbang.

Altar of Reflection #5

Trying to reach this Altar of Reflection in Ghost of Yotei can be a bit of a doozy, so here goes:

  • In Atsu’s Home, relive her memories and interact with her mother and father. The interaction helps you learn about the upgradable charms in Mount Yotei.
  • Head to Mount Yotei Shrine and climb all the way to the summit.
  • Pick up the Mother’s Charm and Father’s Charm.
  • Instead of taking the shortcut back down, look for a sloping path that leads to the crater in the middle. Tag the altar to unlock another skill.

Altar of Reflection #6

You can get the reward from this altar by defeating all the soldiers in Outcrop Homestead. Just watch out because the base has lots of armored samurai.

Altar of Reflection #7

Found in the middle of a clearing north of the winding river. You have to slice through the bamboo thicket to reveal the slightly hidden area beyond.

Altar of Reflection #8

To unlock this Altar of Reflection, you have to climb to the top of the rock formation due northeast of #7. Use your grapple to get across the gaps and, upon reaching the top, you should see a note.

The document warns you that playing music will wake the bear. Play your Shamisen at this exact location to trigger a cutscene. After the ronin has left, you’ll notice that a ladder has been propped up. Use it to climb to the opposite side of the rock formation.

Altar of Reflection #9

This is similar to altar location #6 in that you have to clear out another base. This time, it’s the Saito Recruitment Camp in the central-east portion of the region.

Altar of Reflection #10

There’s another altar in Serpent’s Pass/Twisted Tree. Before going there, we suggest picking up the Three Terrors bounty at the Old Inn since the targets are inside the cave tunnels. Once you’ve eliminated them, climb up the cliff to claim your reward.

That does it for our guide on where to find all Altars of Reflection in Ghost of Yotei. We’ll definitely add other locations that we discover, so stay tuned. In the meantime, we encourage you to look for various upgrades, such as those that come from Hot Springs (maximum health) and Bamboo Strikes (maximum spirit).

From lush and fertile valleys to fortresses guarded by dozens of samurai, you’ve got your work cut out for you as Atsu. Don’t fret, though, because we have a Ghost of Yotei guides hub to help you every step of the way.
