Bad Week for PS4 as Another Popular Game Ends Support

PS4 game shutting down

It is starting to feel like the PS4 might actually phase out in the near future. One of the most popular battle royales, PUBG: Battlegrounds, is ending legacy support later this year, which means it won’t be playable on PS4.

When does PUBG end PS4 support?

PUBG Studios has announced that beginning on November 13, the console version of PUBG will only be supported on PS5, ending support for PS4. Specifically, the last time players will be able to play the battle royale on PS4 will be before live server maintenance on that day. The reasoning behind this decision is to give players a better experience that is more in line with current-gen titles.

“This shift is a necessary step toward aligning PUBG Console with current-gen consoles,” reads the blog post. “To provide our players with a more stable gameplay environment on console and ensure a smoother, more seamless experience with future updates, we’ve decided to transition to current-gen consoles. Following this transition, console players will see improved visuals and more stable frame rates. In addition, we expect to reduce ongoing crash issues through memory-related optimizations.”

The schedule for PUBG ending PS4 support is subject to change. The developer says this change can depend on the review process of each platform and that any updates regarding the matter will be shared.

The developer also states that refunds for Battlegrounds Plus and PUBG: Battlegrounds will be handled by the platform. Customers will have to reach out to PlayStation’s customer support if they want to see if they are eligible for a refund.

PUBG Studios did give a glimpse of the visual improvements that will be made with a before-and-after shot of some terrain. While it may not seem like much to some, it does look like there are more detailed shadows and textures as well as more objects shown from a distance.
