Batman Animated Series Not Moving Forward At HBO Max, Seeking New Home

Batman: Caped Crusader, an animated Batman show executive produced by JJ Abrams that was slated to hit HBO Max, is looking for a new home. The project was originally ordered to series in May 2021, and according to Variety, is one of six projects no longer being produced for HBO Max, but is instead being shopped around.

The other shows HBO Max has cut loose include: Merry Little Batman, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical, Did I Do That to The Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story, and The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie.

In addition to Abrams’ involvement, the animated series was being worked on by Bruce Timm and Matt Reeves. When first announced last year, the series was described by Warner as a “reimagining of the Batman mythology” that will feature “sophisticated storytelling, nuanced characters, and intense action sequences all set in a visually striking world.” A poster was previously released, which you can check out below.
