During today’s livestream, Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios (Criterion, Dice, Motive, and Ripple Effect) revealed the release date for the highly anticipated Battlefield 6.
Battlefield 6 brings back Battlefield 3’s Operation Firestorm map
Battlefield 6 will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 10. The Standard Edition will cost $69.99, while the Phantom Edition will cost $99.99 across all platforms. Check out the full livestream below, as well as a brief description of the game’s world:
“The year is 2027. The world is on the edge of chaos,” reads the game’s description. “After a high-profile assassination shocks the world, major European countries have left NATO, while the US and its allies grapple with the fallout. A massive private military corporation unafraid to cross lines, with deep pockets and the latest tech, looks to fill the power vacuum. This army is PAX ARMATA. What’s left of NATO is in tatters, wounds and battered. This is the world of Battlefield 6.”
Battlefield 6 is looking to modernize what fans love from the series. This starts with its new Kinesthetic Combat System, which enhances movement and gunplay. This includes new gameplay options like Drag and Revive, which allows players to pull a teammate and revive them, as well as mounting weapons to walls to reduce recoil.
The class system is returning in Battlefield 6. Players will be able to choose between Assault, Recon, Support, and Engineer classes, each with their own signature weapons and gadgets.
Battlefield 6 will also feature a bunch of multiplayer modes and maps right at launch. Fan-favorite modes, like Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush will return. Other staples, like Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, Domination, and King of the Hill will also be present. There will also be a new mode called Escalation available, which tasks two teams with capturing control points.
The game will launch with nine maps in locations based in Egypt, Gibraltar, New York, and more. One of the more exciting map additions is the return of the beloved Battlefield 3 map, Operation Firestorm.
For players who just want to play something alone, there is also a single-player campaign. Players will play as a squad of Marine Raiders known as Dagger 1-3, as they fight against private military groups around the world.
Players itching to get their hands on Battlefield 6 won’t have to wait too long. The open beta goes live for two weekends, from August 9 through August 10 and from August 14 through 17.
