After months of leaks and rumors, Nintendo officially revealed its Switch 2 console and a new Mario Kart game in a brief trailer. While the teaser showed off all angles of the Switch 2, the new Mario Kart was only seen for several seconds, but it looks like it’ll be business as usual (with some modifications) for the popular kart-racing franchise.

What that sneak peek did show off was a starting grid full of familiar faces, starting with the main mustachioed man himself, Mario. Nintendo’s favorite plumber is joined by his brother Luigi, Peach, Bowser, and several other characters on the circuit. Interestingly, it looks like Donkey Kong has a new look influenced by his appearance in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, so we could see a few other redesigns to fan-favorite characters when the game is fully revealed.

With a Switch 2 Nintendo Direct scheduled for April, we’ve still got plenty of questions regarding the system, new features, and its new games. The new Mario Kart will undoubtedly be a game that Nintendo has high hopes for, as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is Nintendo’s best-selling game of all time.

An enhanced port of the Wii U original, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been a consistent performer for Nintendo, although sales will likely begin to taper off now that a new game in the series is on the way.
