Helldivers 2 Xbox Release Was Pushed by Sony, Dev Claims

Helldivers 2 Play Solo Single Player

In just a few more weeks, Arrowhead Game Studios’ critically acclaimed cooperative shooter, Helldivers 2, will finally make its way to Xbox consoles. The studio’s CEO, Shams Jorjani, claims that the game’s release on Microsoft’s console was all thanks to Sony.

PlayStation is the catalyst for Helldivers 2’s Xbox release

In a recent interaction between a fan and Jorjani on Discord (H/T VideoGamer), the CEO stated that the Helldivers 2 Xbox release was “all PlayStation” and that fans should thank the company for bringing the beloved game to Microsoft’s gaming platform. The remark was made after the fan thanked Arrowhead for bringing the game to Xbox.

“It was all PlayStation,” said Jorjani. “Send them your thanks! We were all in support, of course.”

“I think it’s one of the coolest things they’ve done,” continues Jorjani. “They’re killing it.”

Helldivers 2 has been one of the few PlayStation-published live service games to be an undisputed hit. Although it has fallen off since its release in 2024, the game still has plenty of players, especially when major updates, like the Heart of Democracy, are released. Bringing the game to Xbox will only increase that pool of players, which is great for its longevity.

Helldivers 2 will launch for Xbox Series X|S on August 26. Players can preorder the standard edition for $39.99. The Super Citizen Edition can also be preordered for $59.99. Here is everything that comes with the special digital edition of the game:

  • Helldivers 2 Full Game for Xbox Series X|S
  • ‘DP-53 Savior of the Free’ Armor Set
  • ‘Will of the People’ Cape
  • ‘MP-98 Knight’ Weapon
  • Super Citizen Status
  • Stratagem Hero Ship Game
  • Premium Warbond Token

When Helldivers 2 was released last year, it received favorable reviews. According to the review aggregate site Metacritic, it garnered an average score of 82 across 67 reviews.
