Kick-Ass Director Matthew Vaughn Wants To Reboot Star Wars (And Luke Skywalker)

There is one possibly controversial way Kick-Ass and Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn would sign on for a new Star Wars movie: rebooting the original. The filmmaker stated that if he was going to explore a galaxy far, far away, he wants to focus on the characters he cherishes.

Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (and spotted by Variety), Vaughn was asked by host Josh Horowitz about his interest in tackling a Star Wars movie. The director responded by saying he’d want “to play with the characters I loved. So if they said to me we’ll… reboot Star Wars and actually have Luke Skywalker, Solo, and Vader and you do your version of it–everyone would say you’re an idiot to try–but that would excite me.”

When Horowitz theorized that fans would have their pitchforks out for Vaughn if he rebooted Star Wars, he asked how it’s any different than recasting James Bond or Wolverine. He also believes “Star Wars is the Skywalker family. And that’s where I think they’ve gone wrong.”
