Amazon is reportedly planning a Marvel-style Tomb Raider universe that will span video games, TV, and film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon–which is publishing the next Tomb Raider game and has a new TV series in the works from Phoebe Waller-Bridge–is also making a new Tomb Raider movie.
The report said Amazon is attempting to create a “connected world of Tomb Raider,” with the games, TV series, and film tied together. Sources told THR that Amazon is working with dj2 Entertainment on the film and the upcoming TV series.
This is apparently a gigantic deal, with a source telling THR that Amazon’s investment into the reported Tomb Raider connected universe would be among Amazon’s “largest commitments” after The Lord of the Rings. Amazon is reported to have spent $250 million on the rights alone for The Lord of the Rings, which is used to create the TV series The Rings of Power.
