Pokemon Go developer Niantic Labs’ next game Peridot is finally launching May 9, after having been in beta in select territories for a number of months.
First announced in April last year, Peridot is the next IP from Niantic that looks to offer a Tamagotchi-like take on its AR format. Now, Niantic has announced that Peridot will launch globally on May 9, with pre-registrations already available on both the Apple Store and the Google Play store. Anyone who does pre-register and also plays within the first two weeks of launch will also be able to net themselves a launch-exclusive hat cosmetic for their Dots, Peridot’s cute creatures you raise and collect.
Whereas Pokemon Go is more about catching and battling your pocket monsters, Peridot places a big emphasis on breeding. In the game you’ll be raising your Dots, and breeding them can produce entirely unique critters whose looks will be a makeup of their parents. “Every Peridot is 100% genetically unique,” Niantic said in a press release announcing the release date. “They inherit a mix of genes from their parents that can make them blue, black, metallic, fuzzy, goat-horned, big-eared, bushy-tailed and an infinite number of other ‘looks’.”
