PS Portal direct cloud streaming, which is still in beta, has received a welcome update as October rolls around. Sony has added two major games to the handheld’s library, which can now be played without the PS5 provided that you have a PS Plus Premium subscription. One of the games is none other than The Last of Us Part II Remastered, which is now playable on a Sony handheld for the first time.
PS Portal direct cloud streaming continues to get better, but a system update is overdue
The Last of Us Part II first became playable on a non-Sony handheld when the game’s PC version was Steam Deck verified. However, its performance fell well short of expectations.
PS Portal has the advantage of streaming directly from Sony’s cloud library, so rest assured, its performance on the PlayStation handheld isn’t going to be an issue.
The other new addition to PS Portal’s cloud streaming library is WWE 2K25, which — for some reason — wasn’t streamable directly with PS Plus Premium until now.
Although PS Portal direct cloud streaming beta updates are much welcome, a system update for the handheld is long overdue. Sony recently rolled out firmware updates for the PS4, PS5, and all of the latter’s accessories. But curiously missing was a PS Portal update.
We continue to spot connectivity complaints, and the handheld’s direct cloud streaming ability has been in beta for longer than we expected. Hopefully, Sony will release a full-fledged firmware update for the Portal soon.
