PS5 and PS4 players have been treated to brand-new trophies for two of the consoles’ biggest games, and they auto pop. Both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III have been re-released as stand-alone titles after being decoupled from the CoD HQ launcher, with MW3 getting a Platinum trophy on the PS5 for the first time.
As Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 gets its first Platinum, MW2 gets new PS5 trophies
To clear up potential confusion, it was always possible to Platinum both MW2 and MW3 on the PS4, but since the games are now stand-alone, they have new trophy sets. All trophies that were unlocked in the previous versions will auto pop when you boot up the new version.
That brings us to the PS5 issue. While MW2 did have a Platinum trophy on PS5, its successor didn’t. Since the game was tacked onto the Call of Duty launcher, Sony treated it as DLC, thus robbing it of the Platinum trophy. Now, PS5 players can not only unlock the Platinum in MW3 for the first time, but they can also unlock the new set of trophies in MW2.
Those who have 100% completion in the PS5 version of MW3 just need to boot up the stand-alone version and they’ll unlock the Platinum trophy.
Be warned, however, that Activision seems to have botched the re-releases. Digital and disc owners of both games are being prompted to repurchase, so make sure to follow the thread below for workarounds:
