Grip Studios and RocketWerkz, the studio behind the game Stationeers, announced a console version for their PvE survival game Icarus. It is scheduled to release for PS5 in Q1 2026.
What is Icarus: Console Edition?
Icarus: Console Edition includes the base game that was initially released on PC, as well as its New Frontiers expansion. This includes the alien region of Prometheus, 30 additional workshop items, and over 100 new craftable items.
Here is a brief description of Icarus: Console Edition, as well as a new trailer:
“Set on the hostile planet of Icarus, where humanity’s attempt at terraforming a new home spectacularly failed, players will encounter both Earthlike and extraterrestrial environments filled with unrelenting storms, deadly fauna, toxic air, and sky-shattering lightning storms. As they fight to survive on the alien surface, humanity’s bravest souls will have to explore, craft, hunt, and prospect for invaluable exotic matter, as they try to endure this formidable final frontier.”
RocketWerkz founder and DayZ creator Dean Hall spoke about his excitement about Icarus: Console Edition.
“I’ve wanted to bring the hostile, extraterrestrial world of Icarus to console platforms for a long time, and it’s somewhat fitting — given its sci-fi setting — that Icarus: Console Edition was announced during the Galaxies showcase,” said Hall. “We strived to make the game the ultimate survival experience, where fauna, flora, and the planet itself provided no safe haven for humanity. We look forward to welcoming Xbox and PlayStation players to the Icarus community early next year!”
When Icarus was released in 2021, it received mixed reviews from critics. According to the review aggregate site Metacritic, it received an average score of 67 from 7 critic reviews. Despite its middling critical reception, players seem to be enjoying the game. The game’s Steam reviews are at “Mostly Positive” from nearly 24,000 users.
PS5 players can wishlist Icarus: Console Edition right now on the PlayStation Store.
