Things aren’t looking good for a two-month-old PS Plus multiplayer game that launched on the service day one. We’ve expressed concerns about FBC: Firebreak before, and despite several updates and improvements since, the game seems to be struggling to retain players.
Multiplayer game FBC: Firebreak may have a hard time once it leaves PS Plus
Earlier today, Remedy Entertainment announced that it’s hard at work on a major FBC: Firebreak update scheduled for September. In the meantime, patch 1.5 has been rolled out with a few fixes and quality-of-life improvements.
A comment in response to the tweet caught my attention. A player pointed out that FBC: Firebreak barely has any players on PC. Out of curiosity, I checked SteamDB, and sure enough, FBC: Firebreak’s 24-hour peak was just 23 players. Its all-time peak, which is what we originally expressed concerns over, is just 1,992 players two months ago. It’s been downhill since then.
I’m well aware that I’m only looking at PC data and that FBC: Firebreak is available on both PS Plus and Game Pass. However, if we’ve learned anything over the last few years, it’s that PC numbers matter when it comes to multiplayer games. Additionally, FBC: Firebreak will eventually leave PS Plus and Game Pass, and there’s no guarantee that subscribers will make a full purchase to continue playing.
Sony and Microsoft don’t share player data, but sites like PSNProfiles do give us an idea of what’s trending. Unfortunately, FBC: Firebreak doesn’t seem to have many recent players.
I do hope the big September patch changes things; failing which, I fear FBC: Firebreak won’t have much of a future.
