It looks like the rumors are true. After weeks of reports coming out that Konami is working on a remake of a classic Metal Gear Solid title, the PlayStation Showcase has officially announced the incoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
Watch this:
The official description reads:
Discover the origin story of iconic military operative Snake and begin to unravel the plot of the legendary Metal Gear series. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater brings unprecedented new graphics, immersive stealth action gameplay and sounds to its riveting story as players once again return to the world of Metal Gear.
The events of Snake Eater actually take place 31 years before the events of the first Metal Gear game, and follows the agent Naked Snake as he attempts to rescue a Russian rocket scientist during the middle of the Cold War.
The original game had actually come out on the PS2, so you can imagine the kind of graphical jump we can expect when it comes to this remake. With the MGS franchise having been on hiatus for such a long time, maybe Snake Eater could serve as a good jumping point for anyone who has yet to play any of the Metal Gear games.
Admittedly, it’s weird to get excited for a Metal Gear game without Hideo Kojima attached, but hopefully Konami has found the right crew to revive the Metal Gear franchise for a whole new generation of gamers.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is expected to launch for the PS5 sometime this fall.
