Warhammer 40,000 has officially arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 with the announcement of a Rogue Trader port.
Owlcat Games’ well-received cRPG set in the grimdark future of the 41st millenium first launched on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S in December 2023. For the uninitiated, it’s a bit like Baldur’s Gate 3, but set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. IGN’s Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader review returned an 8/10. We said: “Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is an ultra crunchy, 130-hour space epic with excellent writing and combat, but unfortunately, also a lot of bugs.”
The Nintendo Switch 2 version was announced at IGN Fall Fan Fest 2025 with a new trailer, below. No release date was mentioned.
Since the launch of Rogue Trader, Owlcat Games has updated the game with a number of patches and DLCs, most recently June’s Lex Imperialis expansion, and it currently sits on a ‘very positive’ user review rating on Steam.
Here’s the official blurb on Rogue Trader:
Players will take on the role of a Rogue Trader, a scion of an ancient dynasty of daring privateers who reign over their own trade protectorate and explore the fringes of Imperial space with the blessing of the Emperor Himself. By virtue of their Warrant of Trade, the Rogue Trader is endowed with privileges and power beyond imagination, as well as the task of expanding the borders of the Imperium. A gargantuan voidship of immense strength and innumerable personnel ready to follow their leader without question is at their disposal. Show your subjects mercy or disdain, stay faithful to the Emperor or consort with the enemies of Humanity — the Rogue Trader’s every decision sends ripples across entire star systems, changing the in-game world and those who inhabit it.
That’s not all from Owlcat at IGN Fan Fest, either. The developer has also announced a Q4 2025 release window for the alpha of its Rogue Trader follow-up, Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy.
It’s exciting times in the world of Warhammer 40,000 video games. Not only do we have the Switch 2 launch of Rogue Trader, and Dark Heresy to look forward to, but we also have significant updates still coming to the likes of Darktide and Space Marine 2. Looking further ahead, Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II, Dawn of War 4, and Space Marine 3 are all in the works.
And be sure to check out everything announced at IGN Fan Fest 2025: Fall Edition for more on what’s coming down the line.
