Are you planning to look for the best defensive gear in Hell Is Us? These artifacts draw upon Lymbic energy, making them integral for the battles ahead. Our guide lists several options so you can choose which ones you prefer in the long run.
Where to find the best defensive gear in Hell Is Us
There are dozens of defensive gear pieces in the game. Here’s a quick summary on what you can expect:
- You can only wear two defensive gear items at any given time.
- These armors and accessories are tied to a particular Lymbic element–i.e. Grief, Terror, Rage, and Ecstasy.
- Unlike most other equipment, gear items do not have duplicates or enhanced/elite variants. However, you can upgrade them by talking to Victor the Blacksmith in Acasa Marshes. You do need to acquire some Crafting Tomes for him.
Bracers of Terror – Intimidating Bulwark
- Location: Senedra Forest – Found in the ruins at the beginning of the campaign.
- Effect: Remaining undamaged will reduce the damage that you take.
This is one of the earliest Hell Is Us defensive gear pieces that you’ll find in the campaign. It’ll be useful, at least for the first few hours until you find better options.
Basically, it offers a bit of protection from an enemy’s initial hit. The effect tends to have high uptime, too, especially since there are moments when you’re not in combat as you’re just exploring.
Bracers of Rage – Bloodlust
- Location: Jeljin – A reward for opening the chamber in the Family First quest.
- Effect: Striking an enemy will return a portion of the damage dealt as health.
This is, by far, one of the best defensive gear in Hell Is Us. It pretty much makes combat so trivial regardless of the difficulty. That’s because every hit you land on a hostile will also restore your health–and this amount increases as you level it up via the Blacksmith. If you like using fast weapons, such as Twin Axes, then you can rapidly regain lost health during encounters.
Brooch of Rage – Bathe in Blood
- Location: Vyssa Hills – Talk to Gildas Brom after completing the Vyssa Hills Refugee Camp tasks.
- Effect: Vanquishing an enemy will restore your health in stamina.
Here’s yet another Rage-type equipment that you’re sure to love. As stated, you regain health and stamina whenever you kill an enemy. It perfectly complements Bloodlust, too. You heal up as you hit your foes, and you heal some more once a target has been defeated.
Idol of Rage – Contempt
- Location: Talju – Complete The Hideout Mystery quest, which involves Agatha’s identification/serial number.
- Effect: Striking an enemy will cause subsequent strikes to deal damage over time.
Idol of Rage isn’t as stellar as the two other Rage-type options, but it’s still fairly useful. Make sure you hit your targets consecutively so you can build up the damage-over-time (DOT) effect.
Bracelet of Grief – Depression
- Location: Marastan – Obtained by completing the Ill-Gotten Gains Mystery quest in the crypts.
- Effect: Receiving a fatal blow will instead restore your health.
If you need the extra survivability, then look no further than this item. When playing on the game’s default difficulty, there’s a good chance that your character will perish against Hollows and Hazes. But, if you have this equipped, then you automatically heal up so you can have a fighting chance. Just remember that this item has a nine-minute cooldown before the effect can trigger once more.
