Sony recently released a PS5 system software update for July 2025, with PS5 Pro owners say may have improved game performance on the high-end console. It’s not unheard of for Sony to make improvements that it doesn’t disclose in patch notes, so we can’t yet say whether these improvements are a direct result of the latest firmware update or not.
PS5 Pro owners report improvements in some first-party games following July 2025 update
I noticed quite a few reports on Reddit regarding improvements seen in some first-party games, like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. More specifically, players say that they’re noticing frame rate improvements in Fidelity Pro mode in some first-party games.
“I noticed the game feels smoother on Fidelity Pro with 120HZ on,” a player wrote. “Even when setting VRR to Off, the game feels smoother. I’m not really sure if it’s just me.”
Another user agreed, and said that they noticed Fidelity mode improvements, too. The player also tested Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart to confirm. “It is definitely running at higher frame rates in Fidelity mode,” they added. “Sadly, Days Gone does not show any improvements in its Balanced mode.”
Since both Spider-Man 2 and Rift Apart are Insomniac Games titles and Days Gone doesn’t show any sign of improvement, it’s possible that these tweaks were made by Insomniac prior to the latest PS5 system update, but they’re just being noticed now.
We’ll keep an eye out for more reports.
