The PS3 featured many games gamers would consider classics, but not many were as popular as PopCap Games and Electronic Arts’ player-friendly tower defense game Plants vs. Zombies. A recent listing suggests the franchise is making a comeback on PS5, and it may be sooner than people think.
PS3 classic Plants vs. Zombies is receiving remake this October
According to a report from a notable leaker, Dealabs Magazine’s Billbil-kun, the previously listed Plants vs. Zombies Reloaded will actually be a “completely reworked version” of the tower defense game called Plants vs. Zombies Replanted. Additionally, according to their sources, the release date is October 23, 2025. They believe an official announcement will happen within a month.
As previously reported, it seems the remake is targeting release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices. Dealabs Magazine claims the game will be €19.99, which converts to $23.17. If this is the actual price in euros, players should expect to pay between $19.99 and $24.99.
The Plants vs. Zombies franchise has ventured into different genres since its original release in 2009. Originally a tower-defense game, the EA franchise has spun-off into a third-person shooter known as Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare. In 2016, a digital card game called Plants vs. Zombies Heroes was released with positive reviews. The most recent release was Plants vs. Zombies 3: Welcome to Zomburbia in 2024 for mobile devices.
It would make sense for EA to revisit a beloved entry in the Plants vs. Zombies series. The first game was nominated for several awards between 2009 and 2011. It even won awards at the Golden Joystick Awards and the 7th International Mobile Gaming Awards. When it launched, it was received positively. According to Metacritic, it received an average score of 87 across 41 critic reviews.
