Sony quietly removed some PS4 features back in March, and the change seems to have gone unnoticed. Last month, I wrote that the PS4 arguably had the best social integration on a PlayStation platform, and that the PS5 lacks useful social features. And it just so happens, it was a bunch of those features that Sony removed from the last-gen console this year.
Sony unceremoniously removed some PS4 social features back in March 2025
I randomly landed on a PlayStation webpage while looking something up, where Sony “announced” that starting March 2025, PS4 users will no longer be able to share their posts/activities with “Anyone” or “Friends of Friends.”
The only people who can now see your activities on PS4 are folks on your friends list. Players can, of course, choose to hide their posts completely by choosing “No one” from the visibility options.
Additionally, Sony has removed PS4’s Comment, Like, and Share functions on Activities. I haven’t owned a PS4 in a while, so reading this one sent me down the memory lane. The feature wasn’t critical in the grand scheme of things, but I did like interacting with my friends’ Activities, and admittedly enjoyed getting Likes on mine!
Sony’s been winding up support for the PS4 for quite a while now, so the removal of these features doesn’t come as a surprise. However, I do wish to see better social integration on the PS6.
PS5’s social features leave much to be desired, but I don’t think Sony has any plans to make more meaningful changes in this generation.
