Microsoft surprised PS5, PS4 players yesterday by shadow launching two legendary shooters on the PS Store along with DLC. The $14.99 Heretic + Hexen bundle not only comes with previously released expansions, but also all-new episodes created by Nightdive Studios.
Classic shooters Heretic + Hexen come to PS5 for the first time
In addition to Heretic + Hexen single-player modes, the games come with local split-screen and cross-platform online multiplayer modes. PS Plus is required, of course, but if you’re on the Premium tier, there’s even more good news. Heretic + Hexen landed straight into PS5’s cloud streaming library, so you don’t need to download anything.

- Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders
- Hexen: Beyond Heretic
- Hexen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel
- Two all-new episodes created in collaboration between individuals at id Software + Nightdive Studios:
- Heretic: Faith Renewed
- Hexen: Vestiges of Grandeur
“The two new episodes in Heretic + Hexen cover both games – ‘Faith Renewed’ is a new Heretic episode while ‘Vestiges of Grandeur’ was created in Hexen,” said id Software’s Mike Rubits. “They followed in the spirit of the new episodes in our previous re-releases: a whole new experience that uses the original technology, but is not bound by having to run on 30-year-old computers with a very small amount of memory.”
As for PS5, PS4 enhancements, Heretic + Hexen come with new accessibility options, quality-of-life improvements, behind-the-scenes content, 4K / 120 FPS support for compatible platforms, wide screen support, modern controller layout, Quick Save / Load functions, and much more.
