Following recent leaks, Sega has announced PS5 remakes of some of its best PS2, PS3 action adventure games. The first three Yakuza games as well as 2015’s Yakuza 0 are all headed to PS5. While Yakuza Kiwami 1 & 2, and Yakuza 0 are already playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility with PS4, they’re getting native PS5 ports for the first time. Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties is a brand-new release.
PS5 remakes of PS2, PS3 Yakuza games releasing sooner than you think
Yakuza Kiwami 1 and 2, which are remakes of the first two Yakuza games, will release natively on the PS5 on December 8. A physical edition with both games as well as a physical Yakuza Series 20th Anniversary bundle, which includes Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, will also be available.
Speaking of Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, yes, the 2015 PS3 and PS4 game is also headed to PS5 natively on December 8. Unfortunately, however, there won’t be an upgrade path for those who already own the original release. Additionally, saves cannot be carried over.
The Director’s Cut includes “deeper insight into key incidents and character backstories with never-before-seen cutscenes” and Red Light Raid multiplayer that’ll be added in a post-launch update.
Last but not least, today’s biggest announcement is Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, a PS5 and PS4 remake of Yakuza 3 that leaked last week. The game will launch on February 12, 2026.
Dark Ties is a separate game that’s included in the package. It’s described as a “brand-new tale of Yoshitaka Mine from Yakuza 3.” An official overview and trailer are as follows:
Having once led a successful startup company, he plunged himself into the dark world of the yakuza by choice after losing everything. Left with an empty heart, the pursuit to find true bonds drives him forward once again in a dramatic journey colored by exhilarating boxing-based combat, and a variety of engaging side experiences.
Two men will walk different paths that converge to shake the very foundations of fate.
