It looks like another cult classic PS3 game series is set to return to the PS5 in the form of a new remaster package. Players have unearthed evidence of a potential Prototype 1 & 2 remaster for current-gen platforms, and the leak is pretty convincing.
Evidence of Prototype 1 & 2 PS5 remaster mounting
For starters, back in 2024, the Australian Classification Board rated new versions of Prototype 1 and 2, but it largely went unnoticed because fake listings have previously popped up on the website (don’t ask us how). Then, in April this year, a playtester claimed that a new Prototype is in the works.
However, it’s what players found a day ago that has us convinced that the rumors are true. Players discovered that the original Prototype games received a mysterious PC update. And thus, dataminers got to work. According to a detailed post on Reddit, dataminers found new test maps as well as additional developer names in the game’s credits.
One of those new studios happens to be Iron Galaxy Studios, which has recently been involved in bringing classics to new platforms, including Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4. Other new additions in the credits are all Activision devs, one of which was also involved in the Spyro remasters.
For the uninitiated, Prototype is an Activision IP that was developed by Radical Entertainment.
Interestingly, references to Ubisoft Connect were also found in Prototype’s mysterious new patch.
We’ll update our readers when we have more information, but based on what we’ve seen so far, we’re convinced that Microsoft is up to something.
