Team Cherry’s Metroidvania action-adventure game, Hollow Knight, follows the journey of a nameless warrior called the Knight as he travels through Hallownest, which is now a kingdom in ruins because of a supernatural disease. As the Knight journeys through Hallownest, he can unlock new abilities, spells, and charms that will help him traverse through different areas of Hallownest and defeat enemies.
In the game, special items give the Knight different abilities and bonuses called Charms. To equip or unequip these Charms, the Knight must be sitting on a Bench, and the Knight must have enough unused Notches to equip them. In this guide, we’ll learn about the Glowing Womb charm.
One of the 45 Charms in the game is the Glowing Womb Charm which requires and takes up only two Charm Notches. When equipped, the Glowing Womb charm uses the Knight’s Soul to summon Hatchlings that can deal damage to enemies upon contact. The Glowing Womb charm will summon a Hatchling every 4 seconds, and there can only be four Hatchlings at once. The charm will use 8 Souls to spawn each Hatchling that deals 9 contact damage to enemies.
Because of the charm’s effect of using Soul to spawn Hatchlings, the player should be good at dodging and attacking using the Nail if the Knight has the Glowing Womb charm equipped, as there would be less Soul that can be used for Focusing or healing and casting spells. However, the Glowing Womb charm can be useful for a passive companion that can attack enemies in battle. With the Glowing Womb charm, the Knight will now spawn Hatchlings that can help the Knight defeat enemies!
Location
The Glowing Womb charm can be found next to a corpse of what looks like a large Aspid Mother at the end of a hidden room in the middle of the Forgotten Crossroads.
On the way to acquiring the Glowing Womb charm in the Forgotten Crossroads area, the Knight will encounter a few enemies, specifically Tiktiks, Vengeflies, a Husk Guard, a Husk Bully, Aspid Hatchlings, Aspid Hunters, and Aspid Mothers. In late game, however, when the Forgotten Crossroads has become the Infected Crossroads, the Vengeflies will become Furious Vengeflies, and the Husk Guard will be inactive.
Before the Knight can find the Glowing Womb charm, it is required that the Knight has the Crystal Heart ability, which allows the Knight to continuously dash and fly forwards until the Knight hits a wall, hits an enemy that was not killed by the dash, or if the player stops the dash, and the Mantis Claw ability, which allows the Knight to cling to walls and jump off of them. To make the journey to the Glowing Womb charm easier, it is recommended that the Knight has the Monarch Wings ability, which allows the Knight to perform a secondary jump in mid-air, and the Mothwing Cloak ability, which allows the Knight to dash forwards horizontally. With this item and these abilities, acquiring the Glowing Womb charm will be no challenge.
To find the Glowing Womb charm, this is what the Knight must do:
- Starting from the Bench in the Stagway Station of the Forgotten Crossroads, head to the right to exit the room, jump up on the platform on the right where the Knight will encounter a Tiktik and a Vengefly, continue to head upwards using the small platforms where the Knight will encounter another Tiktik, then take the next exit on the left.
- Next, head to the left and jump to the next platforms, where the Knight will encounter two more Vengeflies and a Husk Guard below, drop down from the platform, and continue to the left until the Knight reaches a narrow path. Then, strike the wall above the narrow path several times to break it and reveal a hidden path.
- Then, jump up to the newly opened path and head to the left, where the Knight will encounter a Husk Bully and a Geo Deposit. You will see that the path ahead is narrow, filled with spikes on top and bottom, which leaves a tiny space in the middle for the Knight to pass through without taking damage. To cross the spikes, head slightly to the right up the previous platform, face the narrow path filled with spikes, then use the Crystal Heart ability to dash and fly through the middle of the spikes in the narrow path.
- After that, the Knight will hit a wall with spikes below, so quickly jump up the wall and onto the next platform using the Mantis Claw ability. The Knight can then take the exit above using the Mantis Claw ability or the Monarch Wings ability.
- Next, head upwards using the Mantis Claw ability or the Monarch Wings ability, where the Knight will encounter an Aspid Hunter, head to the right, where the Knight will encounter an Aspid Mother that spawns Aspid Hatchlings, cross the gap to the next platform on the right, drop down the gap on the right where the Knight will encounter two more Aspide Hunters.
- Then, continue to the right, where there will be a big open area with a few small platforms in the middle and spikes down below. Upon reaching the middle of this area, the path to continue and back will be closed, and the Knight will be forced to fight several enemies. To continue, the Knight must defeat four waves of enemies: one Aspid Hunter and one Aspid Mother, two Aspid Hunters and one Aspid Mother, three Aspid Hunters, and, lastly, two Aspid Hunters and two Aspid Mothers. It is worth noting that the Aspid Mothers will spawn Aspid Hatchlings, so the number of enemies may grow if you do not get rid of the Aspid Mothers first.
- After defeating all the enemies, the path to continue and back will be opened. Head to the right through the path on the top right, and there you will see something glowing near the corpse of what looks like a huge Aspid Mother. Inspect the glowing thing, and the Knight has now obtained the Glowing Womb charm!
To exit this area, head to the left and head back from where the Knight went. Exit the room on the bottom left of the room; then, instead of dropping down to the left and using the Crystal Heart ability from the wall on the left again, the Knight can head to the right where part of the floor at the end of the path will break once the Knight stands on it and reveal a shortcut back.
Other Charms go well with the Glowing Womb charm, specifically, the Defender’s Crest charm, which releases toxic clouds around the Knight that deals damage to enemies and, if paired with the Glowing Womb charm, will reduce the spawned Hatchlings’ contact damage from 9 to only 5, but the Hatchlings will now also release toxic clouds that last for a second and deals up to 5 damage, the Fury of the Fallen charm, which will increase the Knight’s Nail damage by 75% when at only one Mask of health remaining and, if paired with the Glowing Womb charm, will also increase the spawned Hatchlings’ contact damage when the Knight is at one Mask of health remaining, and the Kingsoul charm, which generates four Soul for the Knight every two seconds and, if paired with the Glowing Womb charm, the Knight will be able to constantly spawn Hatchlings as the Knight’s Soul will constantly be regenerated.
Now that the Knight has the Glowing Womb charm, the Knight can equip it while sitting down on a Bench, and the Knight will spawn Hatchlings that can deal contact damage to enemies!
