With PlayStation exclusives like The Last of Us and Uncharted getting adaptations, the last game fans thought that would get a film is something like Gran Turismo which doesn’t even have a story. Just in, we have the first trailer for a Gran Turismo movie, and it comes from none other than District 9 director Neill Blomkamp.

The official synopsis reads:

Based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver.

Though having no real story could have looked like a problem for a franchise like Gran Turismo, it’s actually interesting that they were actually able to get plot that is actually based on something that actually happened.

The movie should also pique the interest of self-proclaimed cinephiles. Though they may not play GT games, the fact that the director behind sci-fi films like Elysium and Chappie  is at the helm for this project should be a huge draw. Blomkamp may not have been able to push forward with his RoboCop or Alien projects, but having him take on a racecar movie like Gran Turismo definitely feels like something worth checking out.

Gran Turismo is expected to hit theaters Aug. 11. Gran Turismo 7 is now playable for PlayStation 4|5.
