We know that Henry Cavill is working on a Warhammer 40,000 series for Amazon Prime Video, but it will probably be a while till we get our first trailer. What’s cool is, Focus Entertainment has dropped a new trailer for their retro shooter Boltgun, and it gives us a look at some pixelated heretics getting absolutely pummeled.
Check this out:
Here’s the official description:
Get ready for Boltgun, a gory, rapid-fire boomer shooter blast from the past that is as nostalgic as its gameplay is fluid and modern. You will take control of a mighty Sternguard Veteran along with his faithful servo-skull and plunge headlong into the grim dark universe of Warhammer 40,000. Summoned by the Inquisition, ready your righteous arsenal, your indomitable armor and your battle-honed instincts to Scour Graia, a Forge World on the brink, overrun by Cultists, Traitors and Daemons.
Blast cultists apart with your mighty Boltgun! Smash traitors with your Charge! Shred the spawn of the Archenemy with your Chainsword! Maim and obliterate hordes of foes with your array of iconic weapons!
Though we’ve gotten some retro side-scrollers in the past, this could be the first time I actually saw a shooter that tried to emulate the look and feel of the original Doom that came out in 1993. I guess it’s worth noting that the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game was published in 1987, so the franchises kind of released back-to-back across two decades.
The modern Doom games may have evolved to look a lot like modern titles, but it’s pretty neat to see a title with the pixelated monsters and HUD; plus all of it is set in the established lore of Warhammer 40K.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun releases for PlayStation 4|5, Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on May 23.
