Microsoft’s $69 Billion Acquisition of Activision Blizzard Allegedly Pushing Through

A year ago, it was announced by Microsoft that they had plans to acquire Activision Blizzard, but the deal was apparently held back because the CMA (UK’s Competition and Markets Authority) claimed that the deal could impact the future of the cloud gaming market.

Microsoft's $69 Billion Acquisition of Activision Blizzard Allegedly Pushing Through

Gamers have been waiting for months to wonder what the final verdict on the acquisition would be, and now Reuters is claiming that the EU antitrust regulators are looking to clear Microsoft’s $69 billion acquisition of Activision by next week May 15 (the deadline for the decision was set for May 22).

Microsoft acquiring Activision is considered to be one of the largest deals ever made in gaming, and with the massive scope that Blizzard covers, you can imagine that it would be a huge feather in the cap of Microsoft, who had also recently acquired Bethesda.

With PlayStation having some pretty huge exclusives on their side with The Last of Us, Horizon, God of War, Spider-Man, and Final Fantasy, you can imagine Xbox has been trying to scramble to get some big-name franchises to be exclusive to their platform.

Even though it’s been said that the series X|S is the more impressive console when it comes to technical specs, the PlayStation still managed to draw audiences with its library of great exclusives. I mean, what else is Xbox going to dangle at players, Gears of War and Halo?

As of now, we don’t have any official statement from the EU regulators, but hopefully we get something by next week. All we can really do now is wait.
