The Witcher III Celebrates Over 50 Million Copies Sold

The Witcher III may have launched back in 2015, but the game still continues to draw players to the realm of the Continent—and the casual nudity of Geralt of Rivia.

Just in, CD Projekt Red has announced a big milestone for the game at more than 50 million copies sold. Here’s what the official post said:

The School of the Wolf is growing! 🐺 Over 50 million people joined Geralt of Rivia on his Path of finding Ciri and defeating the Wild Hunt!

Thank you for your enormous support over the years! ❤️

For context, other games that have managed to cross the 50 million mark include Red Dead Redemption 2, Grand Theft Auto V, and Mario Kart 8. On the very top of that list sits Minecraft which has sold 238 million.

The Witcher III is no doubt one of the most celebrated open-world games to ever come out in the 2010s, and is responsible for establishing CDPR as a big-name studio. Despite the success though, the hype behind The Witcher III was also what led to the insanely huge expectations for Cyberpunk 2077, which ended up having a disastrous launch filled with bugs and crashes.

For now, CDPR is planning on expanding their Witcher library more titles currently in development. They’ve even brought in third-party studios to try and make their own spin with the Witcher IP. We don’t know when they’ll be able to release their follow-up to Wild Hunt, but at this point, the studio has kind of milked the game so much that fans are starting to compare the studio to Bethesda milking Skyrim for several years across multiple platforms.

The Witcher III: Wild Hunt is now available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 4|5, and the Nintendo Switch.
