Are you raring to find all the gadgets in The Outer Worlds 2? These tools ought to help you throughout the campaign. The Outer Worlds 2 gadgets guide

Here’s what you need to know about the gadgets that are available in the game:

  • There are six gadgets that we know of so far. Most of these are equipped via the inventory, and you can swap between them using your keybinds.
  • Several gadgets consume energy–i.e. the light blue bar at the bottom-right corner of the screen. Energy gradually recharges over time, so make sure you have enough when you need it most.
  • Some gadgets are obtained as you progress through the main quest. Others require you to go off the beaten path.

Tactical Time Dilation

  • Location: Incognito
  • Quest: “A Cause Worth Killing For” – This is the first gadget in The Outer Worlds 2. You receive it from Niles during the prologue.
  • Effect: Slows down time, allowing you to line up your shots or find cover.
  • Energy usage: 1 energy per second; energy is drained faster if you keep moving or firing your weapon while the effect is active

Auntie’s Acidic Dematerializer

  • Location: Incognito
  • Quest: “A Healthy Improvement” – After the prologue, talk to Valerie to receive the quest. You have to use an Advanced Decryption Key to open the first High Security Lockbox that contains this item. Note that you need four more keys to open the next container, which also completes Valerie’s personal quest.
  • Effect: Melts corpses, preventing others from seeing them or getting alerted.
  • Energy usage: 40 energy per activation

P.A.L.E.

  • Location: Paradise Island
  • Quest: “A Final Death for Gravity” – We discuss all the details and related rewards in our double jump ability guide.
  • Effect: Allows you to jump again while in mid-air. Note that your character will still perish if falling from a great height at terminal velocity–i.e. more than three seconds.
  • Energy usage: N/A

Gas Energy Deflection Apparatus

  • Location: Paradise Island
  • Quest: “An Aegis Against the Miasma” – You have to do tasks for Delphinia Bryant in the Euphoria Coast Automech Repair Center. The facility is in the eastern edge of the region.
  • Effect: Activates a temporary shield that allows you to pass through Zyranium clouds and fields. Overexposure to Zyranium will still kill your character once the shield has been depleted.
  • Energy usage: 70 energy per activation

N-Ray Scanner

  • Location: Golden Ridge
  • Quest: “On the Trail of the Traitor”/”Discrete Mathematics” – To obtain this gadget in The Outer Worlds 2, you need to tackle the main quest in Golden Ridge, which takes you to the N-Ray Range facility further to the northwest.
  • Effect: This device has numerous effects and uses:
    • Grants a +20% critical hit chance while the effect is active.
    • Allows you to see enemies and objects through walls.
    • Allows you to see phased-out/invisible enemies.
    • You can see connectors, wires, and switches that are otherwise invisible to the naked eye.
    • This tool tends to be used in a few puzzles, such as the one that’s part of “The Last Voyage of the ACS Free Market” quest.
  • Energy usage: 4 energy per second

Rift Anomaly Modulator

  • Location: Praetor
  • Quest: “An Instrument to Unfold Time and Space” – Although you might encounter rifts early on, the quest itself can only be tackled many hours into the campaign. It’s a main mission so you can’t miss it.
  • Effect: Allows you to stabilize rifts. Traveling through them leads to secret areas with loot or new passageways.
  • Energy usage: N/A
