When Nintendo revealed Mario Kart World would be $79.99, there was fear that other companies would follow suit. Shortly after, Microsoft announced it would be increasing the price of its games, starting with The Outer Worlds 2. However, it seems the backlash was effective, as Obsidian Entertainment announced it would be dropping the price of its upcoming RPG.
What is the new The Outer Worlds 2 price on PS5?
This announcement comes straight from Obsidian Entertainment’s X (formerly Twitter) account in a new post. While the price drop for The Outer Worlds 2 isn’t substantial, it is what PS5 players are now accustomed to. The upcoming RPG will now be $69.99.
“We have received your SOS via skip drone about the pricing. As an organization devoted to making sure that corporations do not go unfettered, we at the Earth Directorate have worked with [REDACTED] to revise the price of The Outer Worlds 2,” says the post. “While this will not bring peace to the galaxy, or even your local colony, we assure you all that we are here to fight for all colonies in every way that we can.”
This change seems to be affecting the rest of Xbox’s full-priced holiday releases as well, according to a statement to Windows Central from an Xbox spokesperson.
“We’re focused on bringing players incredible worlds to explore, and will keep our full-priced holiday releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, at $69.99 – in line with current market conditions,” says the Xbox spokesperson’s statement.
Additionally, players who had already preordered The Outer Worlds 2 at the $79.99 price point will be issued refunds at some point today or tomorrow.
