2025 has seen some great games release. From Elden Ring: Nightreign to Monster Hunter Wilds, these new PS5 games are not only acclaimed but also selling well. However, one game has recently reached a sales milestone, becoming the top new PS5 game this year, and it’s one PlayStation players were not expecting.
Xbox’s Forza Horizon 5 is the best-selling new PS5 game
According to a new report from Alinea Analytics, Xbox’s Forza Horizon 5 has surpassed 3 million copies sold on PS5. Thanks to a recent PS Store sale, which brought a 25% discount to the critically acclaimed racing game, it is now the best-selling new PS5 game in 2025 thus far.
Microsoft brought Forza Horizon 5 to PS5 in March this year, four years after its original release on PC and Xbox consoles. Since its release, its sales have surpassed some of the biggest-selling games of the year, including the aforementioned Monster Hunter Wilds, as well as Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Here are the top five best-selling new PS5 games between January 1 and July 21 according to Alinea Analytics:
- Forza Horizon 5 (3 million copies sold)
- Monster Hunter Wilds (2.9 million copies sold)
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows (2 million copies sold)
- Elden Ring: Nightreign (1.4 million copies sold)
- Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (1.3 million copies sold)
Another notable entry is Expedition 33. This is a brand-new IP and is the first game from Sandfall Interactive. Considering the rest of the entries are from established studios with years of experience, this is a solid milestone for the French studio.
While Forza Horizon 5 is the best-selling new PS5 game, it is not the best-selling game across all platforms for the year. As of now, according to Circana’s Mat Piscatella, Monster Hunter Wilds is the best-selling game this year. This is then followed by The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and MLB The Show 25.
