A 2022 PS5, PS4 shooter that was scheduled to be sunset this month isn’t going offline after all. Back in July, 1047 Games announced that it was shutting SplitGate down and sending its successor back into beta two months after launch. However, not only will the original game live, it’ll also grant players new content for free.
PS5, PS4 shooter SplitGate 1 to remain online thanks in part to Stop Killing Games movement
On August 29, SplitGate will move to a peer-to-peer model, which means that players can host matches. Other players will be able to see all available matches via the server browser, and simply join one.
The following content is being added to SplitGate, per 1047 Games:
- 13 WIP blockout arena maps, including some of the first maps shown in Splitgate 2
- Simulation Juliet (an unreleased Takedown map)
- Everyone gets access to all cosmetics. For this reason, the Battle Pass, Rewards Center, Store, and Drops have been sunset
1047 Games says that it made the decision to keep SplitGate online in response to feedback from players and the popular “Stop Killing Games” movement. For those not aware, the initiative — which has caught the attention of politicians — seeks to prevent developers from “destroying” purchased games.
“While we can’t keep the full online infrastructure running indefinitely, we can make sure the game itself lives on for anyone who wants to keep playing,” 1047 Games added.
